Dr. Susanna Mitra

Susanna Mitra is a social scientist who advocates a context-based, community-centred approach to research for societal impact. She has over 15 years’ experience in research, policy, and practice. Susanna uses qualitative methods and case studies in complex and challenging geographies to encourage research participation, voice, and agency. Settings with which she is most concerned are least developed countries, post-conflict, disasters, humanitarian interventions, social justice, climate mobility, and health equity. She holds a PhD in Political Studies from The University of Manchester, UK, and has collaborated with researchers in the USA, UK, Germany, and Denmark to advance inclusion and belonging in times of peace and conflict. She was awarded a fellowship from the Global Challenge Research Fund for advancing innovative methodologies of participatory research.
